It’s rare, but sometimes the sequel is better than the original. A great player in his own right, Ken Griffey’s son is in a league of his own. Junior was the American League home run leader in four different seasons, slugging 630 throughout his career. He won the Golden Glove ten times, and was a 13 time All-Star. In short, the Kid can play. He was the definition of cool in the 90s, and his cards represent that, commanding high prices to this day.

A couple of guys that like to take big swings, Griffey Jr. and Spidey were a perfect pair for this series. A fun compilation from Skybox that we’ll soon do a featured post on. Both of these superheroes have staying power in 2026 and beyond.
1995 PINNACLE #128 KEN GRIFFEY JR
The backwards hat and bubble gum were a signature of Junior’s fun-loving style. He was just a big kid getting to live out his dream. His personality connected him to a generation of kids and contributes to his lasting popularity decades later.
1997 Fleer Flair Showcase Ken Griffey Jr. Hot Gloves #4
For a die-cut, this card is fire (sorry had to do it). Griffey was known to be an excellent defensive player, so his inclusion in this Hot Gloves set from Flair is no surprise. The flame-engulfed glove is an excellent background, but when you factor in the thermochromatic ink, it turns a collector’s item into a conversation piece.
1997 Topps Ken Griffey Jr #SS6 Sweet Strokes
Griffey had won four Silver Slugger awards by the 97 season, with three more still to come. There was no sweeter stroke than Junior’s in the late 1900’s. The color and sparkle in this card highlights his perfect form. Great card.
